Party people primed and ready to spice up the Spectrum party

Motorola recently dazzled Manila’s social scene as it unveiled the new and improved, sharper than ever RAZR2. For the whole month of August, Jive Friday’s Spectrum Party series at Temple Bar Greenbelt 2 reigned supreme every Friday night as Manila’s party people reveled in the music of guest Hip Hop DJ Atoy, DJ King, DJ Paolo Toledo, and Temple resident DJ Darrel D. Motorola users received nothing but VIP treatment – no entrance fees, complimentary drinks, and unlimited access to Temple’s VIP area. To top it all off, Motorola gave away a brand new RAZR2 V8 to the best dressed party gal spotted during the culminating night.

Like today’s young and upwardly mobile crowd, the Motorola RAZR2 is an iconic next generation phone. As the thinnest RAZR model armed with a vacummized metal and glass front, external screen, touch sensitive music controls, and noise-filtering Crystal Talk™ technology, the RAZR2 epitomizes technological finesse and modern mobile style.

Motorola’s party scenes have just begun. Watch out as the ultimate next generation mobile phone RAZR2 invades Manila and paints the town sharper shades of red.

Lions repeat as NCAA champs, Menor keys rout of Knights

MANILA, Philippines — Ogie Menor was his usual stoic self, focusing on the task at hand throughout the one-sided encounter.

But after looking at the clock one last time, the San Beda College enforcer liked what he saw and finally managed to smile.

Menor can now relax after powering the Red Lions to the 83rd NCAA men’s basketball crown with a 76-64 win over the Letran Knights Wednesday night before an overflow crowd at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Feeling the pressure early on, Menor loosened up in the second half and drilled in 18 of his game-high 25 points as the Red Lions duplicated their championship run last season.

“I got my confidence back when my shots started to go in,” said the 6-foot-2 Menor, who was adjudged Finals MVP.

“I don’t think anybody in the league could stop him,” said San Beda coach Frankie Lim of his chief gunner.

It was the 13th NCAA seniors’ crown for the Red Lions, moving the Mendiola-based dribblers to third overall in the championship title race behind Ateneo de Manila University’s 14 and Letran’s 15.

Interestingly, Lim was part of the 1977-1978 San Beda squad, which won back-to-back NCAA titles prior to their accomplishment Wednesday night.

“I’m lucky to have intelligent players,” said Lim. “I feel very rewarded.”

The Red Lion’s sound strategy was tested in the third quarter.

Behind the sniping of RJ Jazul and Bryan Faundo’s timely baskets, the Knights stormed back from 17 points down and advanced within 49-55.

But Pong Escobal, Borgie Hermida and Menor patiently waited for the right time to unleash another attack.

The cue came from Menor, who completed a three-point play, then followed it with a triple from the top of the key before finishing off another fastbreak play that finally ripped the game apart.

Yousif Aljamal outscored the entire Letran crew in the first quarter, tossing in 13 points in a wild 26-12 outburst that hinted of things to come for the Red Lions.

Meanwhile, Kelvin Dela Peña of Mapua Institute of Technology edged Aljamal to bag the NCAA seniors’ MVP award. Dela Peña compiled a player all-around value of 51.4 points to beat Aljamal, who amassed 50.7 points.

Marcelo David of San Beda snagged the Rookie of the Year plum and Hayes is the season’s most improved player.

In juniors’ action, Ryan Buenafe and Arvie Bringas powered the San Sebastian Staglets to their third straight crown with an 88-83 win over the Letran Squires.

Buenafe, the runaway NCAA juniors’ MVP, erupted for 37 points while the 6-foot-5 Bringas contributed 24 points and 23 rebounds as the Staglets also swept the best-of-three series.
